Dr. Nguyen Thuy Ngan – Vietnam Institute for Research and Development of Traditional Medicine suggests that some health benefits of passion fruit are as follows:

A good source of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds

According to studies, the nutritional benefits of passion fruit include fighting free radical damage and oxidative stress thanks to the presence of active ingredients such as carotenoids and flavonoids polyphenols.

In passion fruit seeds, people will find polyphenols, including one called piceatannol, which has been linked to protection against insulin resistance in overweight adults.

Piceatannol is a naturally occurring polyphenolic stilbene found in many different fruits and vegetables, and may also have anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory properties, according to research.

High in fiber

Passion fruit is high in fiber, especially pectin, and low in sugar compared to other fruits.

Although passion fruit has a mildly sweet taste, it provides fiber and other nutrients without raising blood sugar levels too much.

Helps support skin health

Due to its antioxidant content and anti-inflammatory properties, passion fruit may help keep skin healthy, prevent wrinkles, and aid wound healing.

Research results demonstrate that passion fruit seeds contain certain peptides, which have antifungal activity and can promote collagen synthesis.

A 2018 randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind trial found that piceatannol from passion fruit extract was associated with “various effects on the skin, including promoting collagen production, inhibiting melanin synthesis, generating the antioxidant glutathione, and scavenging reactive oxygen species when used for 4–8 weeks.”

According to a 2013 study, piceatannol and other potent antioxidants found in passion fruit may reduce photoaging.

The fruit’s skin-protective effects appear to be due to its ability to inhibit the generation of reactive oxygen species induced by UVB light and protect fibroblasts that form the skin matrix.

Provides Essential Minerals

Passion fruit is a rich source of essential minerals, such as magnesium, calcium, phosphorus, and potassium. Its benefits may include supporting bone health, cardiovascular function, and physical performance.
